Front Tooth Nearly Broken in Half

Michael was fortunate and unfortunate. He had his front tooth broken nearly in half (unfortunate) but he was lucky because he was wearing his clear braces aligner when he was hit (fortunate.) Without his Invisalign retainer he would have most certainly have broken his tooth further and needed at least a root canal, post build-up and porcelain crown. The clear braces saved his tooth.

Dr. Eshom was challenged by this incident because Michael was in Invisalign and he needed his tooth rebuilt with dental bonding. The dental bonding needed to look perfect and also fit the clear braces aligner Michael had and 12 more Invisalign aligner he had to finish his braces. Dr. Eshom used his cosmetic dentistry training to pull off this miracle. First, he uses tooth colored base to build up the inner tooth that was broken. This had to match the root color of the tooth and be opaque enough to be natural looking. Second, Dr. Eshom used a translucent dental bonding material that mimics tooth structure by allowing just enough light to get through to imitate the front tooth next to it.  All this is hard enough free hand but now Dr. Eshom needed the finished dental bonding to fit exactly into the clear braces aligner that Michael already had. Look at the final result of this natural looking tooth that is made up of tooth colored filling material layered to look just like his other front tooth.
